Description
The convent was found in 1748 on the order of the Empress Elizabeth. It had to become the main convent of Saint Petersburg together with the Saint Alexander Nevsky Monastery found by Peter the Great. The wooden model of the Smolny Convent made F. Rastrelli's work-room still remains. It gives a nice concept of the architect's idea
